SCHOOL YARD SCRIBBLES

From the Issue:
February 2011
After a slow start, winter has finally arrived in Troy. Along with all of the snow and days off, we have had many days where the temperature has been too low to safely allow the children to go outside for recess. Our policy is to send the children out, unless the temperature, along with the wind-chill, is below 15 degrees.  As you might imagine, there isn’t a big difference between 14 and 16 degrees, so please make sure your children are coming to school dressed to stay warm.  We have had a lot of students coming to school in boots, and not having footwear to change into once they get inside.  Please make sure your children are bringing a change of shoes with them to school.  Feet that are kept inside snow boots all day can develop all sorts of yucky problems.  If your child has an extra pair of shoes, encourage them to keep a pair in the classroom so that they don’t need to remember to pack them every morning.
Troy School would like to extend a warm welcome to Nancy Hart and Leisa Perrotta, who joined our staff in mid-January.  They both transferred from Emerson School in Fitzwilliam to continue working with two of our new students.

TENDER SHEPHERD PRESCHOOL

From the Issue:
February 2011
It's a joy to hear the delightful sounds of children at Tender Shepherd.  The world of discovery awaits each one. Students explore, experiment, listen, learn, sing, pray, and play at preschool.  The children are learning about God's world and how He created it.  Student-made crafts and drawings help to develop their fine motor skills.  Readiness skills are taught, as well as learning to say, "please" and "thank you."

Throughout this month, the children are learning about kindness and LOVE.  Discussions are taking place regarding our helpers; Firemen, Police Officers, Mail Clerks, Doctors, Nurses, Librarians, Teachers, etc. and how they offer kindness and goodness to others.  Field trips may be scheduled to some of their places of work.  The students will share their friendship and LOVE with a Valentine's Day card exchange.  Our best friend, Jesus shares His LOVE with us!

TENDER SHEPHERD PRESCHOOL

The winter weather will be a topic of discussion all during January. It presents an opportunity to explore the outdoors and to learn about animals in the winter.  The children are also looking forward to bundling up and frolicking in the snow.  The students will also do some baking and learn about healthy foods.  Readiness skills will continue to be taught along with hands-on activities and the making of crafts.  The children hear Bible stories and learn that Jesus loves them.  Songs and moving to rhythm are regular activities.
Morning sessions are held at Christ Lutheran Church. The preschool room is a bright and cheery classroom, decorated with the students' creations. Tender Shepherd has been serving area families for over 25 years. For more information, please call 242-SAVE (7283.)
