If you are one of the voters who wished you could have chosen a specific party ballot and were told that you were not able to because you were listed on the checklist under a specific party, different from your choice for this primary, this is easy to fix.

The purpose of the primary elections is to establish the candidates for the different parties to compete in the general elections.  If you are always intending to stick with a specific political party regardless of the candidates, then you are safe registering with that party, and being listed on the checklist under that party.  If you have any inclination that you ever might want the ability to select candidates for reasons other than party representation you should be listed on the checklist as an UNDECLARED voter.

While it is fresh in your minds there are several opportunities coming up when you can change your status on the checklist.  Times are Jan. 24, 7:00 to 7:30 pm at the Town Hall, Jan. 28 11:00 to 11:30 at the Town Hall and again March 3, 11:00 to 11:30 at the Town Hall, or any time during regular business hours at the Clerk’s office.
