SCHOOL YARD SCRIBBLES

From the Issue:
February 2012
It looks like winter finally showed up! We were beginning to think that the students might be playing soccer in the lower field right straight through until June. Now that the cold weather has arrived, I’d like to take this time to remind you that we hold outdoor recess if the temperature is 15*F or higher. Please make sure your students leave in the morning with jackets, hats, scarves, gloves etc. Students in grades K-4 need boots and snow pants to be down in the lower field if there is snow on the ground. Students in grades 5-6 just need boots. Parts of our old school building are colder than others, and sometimes it’s colder in the mornings than it is in the afternoon. They can’t go wrong if they come to school dressed in layers, but if they show up in just a short sleeve shirt, or without socks, chances are they are going to be cold. Please encourage them to dress appropriately.

February is a short but busy month here at Troy School. The PTO will be selling carnations for Valentine’s Day. Order forms must be turned in by February 8th.  The cost will be $1.00 and they will be delivered to students on February 14th. If you have any questions or need additional order forms please contact Mrs. Arguin. The PTO will hold their next meeting on Wednesday, February 8th at 6:00pm. All PTO meetings are open to whoever wishes to attend them. Yearbooks will go on sale at the end of the month. The cost will be $10 and checks can be made out to Troy PTO. Look for order forms to come home before vacation.

Throughout the month of February we will be collecting canned goods and non-perishable food items to donate to Helping Hand. Each food item will earn you a ticket in the “Have a Heart Raffle” to be held on Friday, February 17th. A big thank you to all the staff members who donated items for the raffle and to Mrs. Arguin for organizing the event.

On Monday, February 6th, Mrs. Ells’, Mrs. Wichland’s, Mrs. Bell’s and Mrs. Smiths’ classes will present the show “Circus, Circus!” at 7:00pm in the E.M.M.R. There will be a dress rehearsal at 2:00pm that day. Both shows are open to the public. If you plan on attending the 2:00pm show, please remember to sign in at the office. On Friday, February 10th, the MRHS Band will be holding an Activity Night for students from Troy and Fitzwilliam in grades 4-6 from 6:30-9:00. Admission is $5.00 and there will be games, activities and refreshments for sale.

The School Board will hold their February meetings on Tuesday, February 7th at Mt. Caesar and Tuesday, February 21st at MRHS at 7:00pm. The Deliberative session for the 2012-2013 budget will be held Saturday, February 11th at 10:00am at MRHS. School will be closed from February 20th- 24th for Winter break.
