TENDER SHEPHERD PRESCHOOL

From the Issue:
February 2012

Our preschool students are participating in their reading challenge.  They enjoy listening to those who read aloud at school, home, or at the library.  Picture books offer an opportunity for each child to develop a love of reading. The children continue learning the alphabet letters and their sounds.  The students' fine and gross motor skills are being developed at preschool.  The children's birthdays are also honored in the classroom.

NEWS FROM MONADNOCK BERRIES ... SORT OF ...

From the Issue:
February 2012
More people have landed on the Moon than have rowed the Atlantic!  Oliver Levick, son of Anthony and Fenella Levick,  owners of Monadnock Berries, is at this moment rowing the Atlantic in an 6 ft x 28 ft ocean canoe.  By the time TTN goes to press he should be on his way to finishing the race.

Oliver is part of the only American Team in the race, called Team Epoch that includes himself and three other rowers.  The race is the toughest rowing race in the world.  It is called the "Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge".  The participants row over 2500 miles, they leave from The Canary Islands just off the coast of Spain and the lucky ones arrive in Barbados many grueling days later...

Out of the seventeen teams that started only twelve are left.  Two boats have capsized, others lost their oars, while others ran out of water and had to withdraw.  Oliver's team have also had trouble with their batteries, GPS, night safety lights, auto steerage, solar power, and fresh water converter.

SCHOOL YARD SCRIBBLES

From the Issue:
February 2012
It looks like winter finally showed up! We were beginning to think that the students might be playing soccer in the lower field right straight through until June. Now that the cold weather has arrived, I’d like to take this time to remind you that we hold outdoor recess if the temperature is 15*F or higher. Please make sure your students leave in the morning with jackets, hats, scarves, gloves etc. Students in grades K-4 need boots and snow pants to be down in the lower field if there is snow on the ground. Students in grades 5-6 just need boots. Parts of our old school building are colder than others, and sometimes it’s colder in the mornings than it is in the afternoon. They can’t go wrong if they come to school dressed in layers, but if they show up in just a short sleeve shirt, or without socks, chances are they are going to be cold. Please encourage them to dress appropriately.
